As per the All India Services (Death-Cum-Retirement-Benefits) Rules, 1958, an IAS officer is not allowed to undertake any employment, other than that of a government servant, during the period of his service, without obtaining prior permission from the Government. This includes taking up any private employment or business.
In general, IAS officers are not allowed to take up private jobs while they are in active service. They are expected to devote their full time and attention to their duties as a government servant and any private employment would be considered as a conflict of interest.
However, there are some exceptions, such as after retirement or taking permission from the government before taking any private job during their service tenure. But, they are supposed to inform the government about the private employment details.
It’s worth noting that, the pension of IAS officer will be stopped if they take any private employment without permission.
