The marks required to clear the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) exam vary from year to year, depending on the number of vacancies and the level of difficulty of the exam. The minimum qualifying marks for the IAS exam is generally around 40-50% for General category candidates, and 35-45% for candidates belonging to reserved categories. However, these are just the minimum qualifying marks and are not sufficient to secure a rank high enough to be selected for the training. Generally, candidates need to score around 200-300 marks out of a total of 1750 marks to secure a rank in top 1000. However, this score may vary depending on the number of candidates and cut off decided by UPSC. It’s important to note that just scoring enough marks is not sufficient to clear the exam, one should aim to get as many marks as possible to secure a rank high enough to be selected.
