The number of students who clear the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) preliminary exam, also known as the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT), varies from year to year. The preliminary exam is the first step in the UPSC exam process and is used to screen candidates for the main examination.

According to the official UPSC website, the number of candidates who clear the preliminary exam and qualify for the main examination has varied widely in recent years. In 2019, for example, about 15% of the candidates who took the preliminary exam were able to clear it and qualify for the main examination. In 2018, that number was around 11%. In 2021, that number was around 8.5%

It’s worth noting that the number of students who clear the preliminary exam can be affected by a number of factors, such as the difficulty of the exam and the number of candidates who take the exam. Additionally, the cut off for clearing the UPSC preliminary exam varies year to year and is set by UPSC based on multiple factors, like the number of vacancies, number of candidates applied, and the difficulty level of the paper, etc.

It’s also important to remember that clearing the preliminary exam is only the first step in the UPSC exam process, and it is a competitive examination, so it’s important to be well prepared and to have a good strategy.
