Biology is not a direct subject in the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) syllabus, but some questions related to biology may be asked in the General Studies Paper II (GS-II) and the optional subject paper.
The General Studies Paper II of the UPSC CSE, which covers topics such as Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations, may have some questions that are related to Biology such as – ecology, biodiversity, and environment.
Additionally, candidates who choose to take the optional subject paper in “Botany” or “Zoology” will have questions from biology in their respective papers.
It is worth noting that even though questions related to biology are not direct, it is important for the candidate to have a general knowledge of the subject as it is related to many current issues and the UPSC tends to test the candidate’s ability to analyze and interpret data and make connections between different subjects.
