All IIMs come under the Ministry of Education which is regulated by the government of India so technically all the IIMs are public universities but still the government is not responsible for IIMs funding. The government is only supporting Baby IIMs (New IIMs) just to get them established like others and all other top IIMs whether it’s IIM Ahmedabad, Banglore or Calcutta, etc, generate their own funds to run the institutes and that is also one of the reasons behind the high fees of IIMs as compared to any other government institute.
