The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination (CSE) tests candidates on a wide range of subjects, including science. The CSE is divided into two stages: the preliminary exam, also known as the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT), and the main exam.
The CSAT tests candidates on general knowledge and aptitude, which includes basic science concepts. The main exam, on the other hand, tests candidates on various subjects such as general studies, essays, and optional subjects.
The optional subjects offered by UPSC include many science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geography, Agriculture, Mathematics and Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunication)
The main exam also includes a paper on general studies, which covers a broad range of subjects including science and technology, environment and ecology, and disaster management.
Additionally, science and technology are also covered in current events and international relations during the interview.
It’s worth noting that, having a background in science does not guarantee success in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, as it also tests candidates on a wide range of other subjects such as governance, politics, economics, history and culture, and international relations.
It’s important to have a broad knowledge base and good analytical skills to excel in the exam.
