The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a written examination that is conducted in a pen and paper format. The CSE is a multi-stage examination consisting of the Preliminary Exam (also known as the Civil Services Aptitude Test or CSAT), the Main Exam, and the Personality Test (also known as the Interview).
The Preliminary Exam is a multiple choice question (MCQ) exam that is conducted in a pen and paper format. The Main Exam is also a written examination that is conducted in a pen and paper format. The Main Exam consists of 9 papers, including papers on general studies, a qualifying paper on Indian languages, and optional papers of the candidate’s choice.
The interview, also known as the Personality Test, is the final stage of the examination process. It is an oral examination where a panel of five to seven members, mostly retired bureaucrats, who are experienced in conducting such interviews, evaluate the candidate based on various factors such as their personality, communication skills, leadership qualities, social awareness, and overall suitability for the civil services.
It’s important to note that the UPSC has not yet announced to conduct the exam online, and it’s still in a pen and paper format. However, UPSC may consider conducting the exam online in the future, but it’s not yet confirmed.
