A very good question I would say, students generally starts grabbing everything from everywhere but before studying for exam we need to know it’s actual requirements and what are the irrelevant things that we can avoid.

These are the list of topics that are almost irrelevant from UPSC point of view-

1- Topics and News related to Bollywood and Entertainment industry.

2- Criminal offences especially very violent and disruptive related to murders and other criminal offences.

3- Luxury topics like Grand Openings and other elite class things.

4- Sports topics are almost irrelevant from UPSC point of view.

5- Only go with popular dates and people, not necessary to learn all history dates and names of Prime Ministers and Presidents of all countries.

UPSC requires Mathematics only to a certain extent, CSAT examination will contain some maths question in its quantitative aptitude but it is basic maths which you have studied till your class 10th so no need to fear maths, you can still clear UPSC even if your maths is not that good.

Memorization is an important aspect of preparing for the UPSC exam, but it is not the only approach to studying. The UPSC exam tests your understanding and knowledge of the subject in great detail, so it’s important to focus on understanding the concepts rather than just memorizing facts and figures.

Here are a few tips that may help you to memorize information quickly and effectively:

Use mnemonic devices: Mnemonic devices are techniques used to help remember information by associating it with something else. For example, using an acronym to remember a list of items, or using a rhyme to remember a fact.

Repeat information: Repeating information helps to embed it in your memory. Repeat information out loud or write it down multiple times to help you remember it.

Use flashcards: Flashcards are a simple but effective tool for memorization. Write the information on one side of a card, and the explanation on the other. Test yourself by flipping through the cards and trying to recall the information.

Connect new information to existing knowledge: Try to relate new information to things you already know. This will help you to remember it better and make connections that can aid in recall.

Practice, practice, practice: The more you practice recalling information, the more likely you are to remember it. Practice quizzes, tests, and mock exams regularly to test your memory and understanding of the material.

Get enough sleep: Adequate sleep is essential for good memory. Being sleep deprived can affect your ability to retain new information and recall what you’ve learned.

Take breaks: Taking regular breaks while studying can help you retain more information. It’s important to take breaks and give your brain a rest so that you can come back to studying refreshed and ready to learn more.

Use visual aids: Visual aids can be very helpful in memorizing information. Try to visualize the information you are trying to memorize, create mind maps, diagrams and images.

It’s important to keep in mind that everyone has their own way of memorizing things, and what works for one person may not work for another. Experiment with different techniques and find what works best for you.

Social Science books from classes 6th to 12th are very important for both prelims and mains exams. Your basic concepts will get clear and when you dig down deep into particular topics these basics will help you a lot to understand the broader concept so try not to skip these, at least have a good reading of these.

For the general category, a person with an age less than 21 years and more than 32 years cannot sit to write UPSC examination. Also, the maximum number of attempts for the general category is 6 so if you have exceeded this limit then also you are not allowed to sit for the UPSC examination.
