UPSC being one of the toughest competitive exams needs regularity where coaching comes in place, you need to be updated with lot of recent news and events to master in current affairs which your coaching Institute will provide so that you can invest your time in studying, mock test and interviews are other benefits of coaching so if you are not extraordinary and is very serious about UPSC then coaching should be a preferred option as things are not very easy without it.

Becoming an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer typically takes several years, as the process involves passing the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination (CSE) and completing various stages of training.

The UPSC conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE) annually, and the process of applying for the exam, preparing for it, and appearing for it, can take up to one year. After clearing the exam, the selected candidates go through an extensive training program, which includes the foundation course, followed by district training, and then specialization training. This training usually takes around 2-3 years.

So, in total, the process from applying for the exam to becoming an IAS officer typically takes around 3-5 years. It’s worth noting that this time frame can vary depending on the individual’s level of preparation, knowledge and understanding of the subjects, the performance in the exam, and the training.

It’s also worth noting that 5 years is a relatively short period of time to become an IAS officer, as it’s a very competitive and rigorous process. Many candidates take multiple attempts and spend several years preparing for the exam before they are successful.

First of all, do not think of more than 2 attempts, as your mindset should be for a maximum of 2 attempts and the second one should be for revision of things that you may do wrong in your first one. If you can crack for your dream post first it’s amazing. If your rank is not even close after 2nd don’t waste one more year and look for a backup that suits you well as per your background. A person who has not succeeded does not mean he doesn’t know anything, he is still way better than those who have not even tried.

A very good option I would say, there is no subject advantage but as a back up, bcom is best. There are tons of job benefits that bcom has over BA History and other subjects.

The number of hours required to study for the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) can vary depending on an individual’s level of preparation, knowledge, and understanding of the subjects. However, on average, most successful candidates spend around 6-8 hours per day studying for the UPSC CSE. This includes time spent on reading newspapers, studying current affairs, and going through the syllabus for the exam. Additionally, it is also important to take regular breaks and engage in physical activities to maintain a balance and keep the mind fresh.

It’s also important to note that the UPSC CSE preparation takes a lot of time, usually around 2-3 years. This means that the time spent on preparation is not just limited to the time spent studying but also includes time spent on self-reflection, introspection and self-evaluation.

However, it’s not just about the number of hours, but it’s also about the quality of time spent, setting a realistic study schedule, focusing on the important topics, and regularly evaluating your progress.

Some students want to go for IAS, some wants to go for IFS or IRS so getting desired rank is their main reason behind second attempt.
