The CSE consists of two stages: the preliminary examination and the main examination.
For the preliminary examination, the high scoring subjects are generally considered to be General Studies Paper 1 (GS1), which covers Indian Heritage and Culture, History, and Geography, and General Studies Paper 2 (GS2), which covers Governance, International Relations, and Social Justice.
For the main examination, the high scoring subjects are Essay, General Studies Paper 1 (GS1), General Studies Paper 2 (GS2), General Studies Paper 3 (GS3) and General Studies Paper 4 (GS4)
