The passing rate of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination, which is the exam for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and other Civil Services, is quite low. The competition is extremely fierce, with only a small percentage of candidates who take the exam actually passing it.

The number of candidates who pass the exam varies year to year, the overall pass rate is usually around 6-7% of the total number of candidates who take the exam. For example, in 2020, out of 829,032 candidates who appeared for the Civil Services Examination, around 8,000 candidates cleared the exam, which is roughly 1% of the total number of candidates.

It’s important to note that the pass rate for the UPSC exam varies depending on the stage of the exam, with a higher pass rate for the preliminary exam and a lower pass rate for the main exam and interview.

It’s important to keep in mind that the UPSC exam is one of the toughest examinations in the country and clearing it is a challenging task. However, with proper guidance, hard work, and perseverance, it is definitely achievable.
