The official language for UPSC exam is English and Hindi. While English is widely used as a medium of communication in India, many candidates may find it challenging to understand and express themselves in English. For the candidates who are more comfortable with Hindi, they can opt for Hindi as medium of instruction for their UPSC exam.

However, it’s important to note that even if you choose Hindi as the medium of instruction, you will still need to have a good understanding of English as it is widely used in the UPSC exam, especially in the comprehension and prĂ©cis writing sections of the main exam. Additionally, Most of the recommended readings for UPSC are in English, so having a good grasp of English is crucial for understanding and interpreting the materials.

It’s also important to note that having a good understanding of English or Hindi alone is not sufficient for UPSC preparation, you will also need to have a strong understanding of the subject matter, good analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to express yourself clearly and effectively in the chosen medium of instruction.

In short, while choosing Hindi as medium of instruction may be easier for some candidates, it’s important to remember that a good understanding of English is also necessary for UPSC preparation and the exam.
